Weekly Vocabulary 2/24/14

Soft Focus: A lens flaw causing a spherical effect, or blurriness around the image.

Surrealism: A cultural movement to capture ordinary in irregular shapes that allowed express te imagination

Cropping: A technique to improve framing by cutting edges off the outside of the image to remove unwanted subjects are to enlarge a specific one.

Anamorphic Format:  The cinematic skill of shooting a widescreen image on a non-widescreen film. The image is distorted by stretching it, so it appears to be widescreen.

Weekly Vocabulary 2/19/18

GIF: Graphics interchanged format- a bitmap image that easily moved for its size as it is only pictures instead of a video and can used on the internet, mainly used for animations

 Zoopraxiscope: an early device for presenting motion pictures. Invented by Eadweard Muybridge, images are placed on a spinning wheel and spun in rapid succession

 Kinetoscope: a movie projection device that places a role of film on a conveying system with a high shutter speed. The light placed in front of the peep hole allows the individual to see the image as if it was a fluid scene

 Chronophotograph: a technique used to capture movement in several images. With several cameras capturing, it was originally used for scientific study of movement

Weekly Vocabulary 2/9/14

Conceptual Photography: A staged photograph where the objects in the image symbolize or illustrates an idea

Stock Photography: A supply of usable images that are licensed to people for a specific use. To prevent hiring a photographer, these images can be used for marketing or publishing.

Microstock Photography: A branch of stock photography, however all images are found via the internet.

Iso stock Photography: A sensitivity setting on a camera that increases the shutter speed on the camera. This is the equivalent of changing film with a higher or lower light sensitivity

Pop Art



Weekly vocabulary 2/6/14

 Pop Art: A popular art movement in the 1950's that was used for marketing and advertising. These images take several pop culture images to create an original image

 Dadaism: Media produced in 1915 that was anti-war. Using images, poetry, and art to show their stand point on war, these gave the views of the creator

 Photomontage: An image created by taking several images and cutting them out, or removing a specific subject, and placing it on a background to create an unrealistic image

 Constructivism: An artistic philosophy that originated in Russia to use art as a social purpose.
